Monsters of Rock Concert Programme Donington 1990 Whitesnake Aerosmith Poison
This item is the official programme for the Monsters of Rock concert on Saturday 18th August 1990, held at Donington Park, England, UK.
The programme is in great condition and is now 20 years old.
Some info of that memorable day;
Lineup: Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Poison, Quireboys, Thunder
After a year spent in hiatus in order to recover after the two deaths that occurred during Guns N' Roses set in 1988, the festival was back, hopefully more secure and safer overall for the most important element of the show the audience. Fortunately the weather was excellent this year so the ground would be solid underfoot, there was supposed to have been a re-designing of the arena so the stage would not be at the bottom of a slope , which had contributed to the problems in 1988, with the front of stage area becoming unduly slippery underfoot. However, site maps indicate the stage was in the same position as in 1988, but this may have been a mistake, or re-orientation might have taken place that was not visible on a map.
This lineup was quite strong, Whitesnake were returning to the festival for their third appearance, the second time as headliners. They had first appeared in 1981 supporting AC/DC and had headlined in their own right in 1983.
Aerosmith were making their first appearance at Donington, having played at Reading a year or so before, they were many fans favourite band of the day and were generally a potent live act.
Support bands Thunder, the Quireboys and Poison all went down pretty well, not surprising really as all three were solid blues rock bands that were designed to appeal to the Aerosmith fans as well as the Whitesnake afficionadoes out there. There were no bands that broke the mould in 1990, all quite predictable . Thunder did very well for an opening act, who were usually bottledm the crowd went ape for them. The entire show was recorded by Radio One and big chunks were also filmed as well.

Monsters of Rock Concert Programme Donington 1984 AC/DC Halen Ozzy Motley Crue
This item is the official programme for the Monsters of Rock concert on Saturday 18th August 1984, held at Donington Park, England, UK.
The programme is in good condition and is now 25 years old.
Some info of that memorable day;
Lineup: AC/DC, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Gary Moore, Y&T, Accept, Motley Crue
The fifth Donington saw the return of Aussie rockers AC/DC with better weather conditions that had accompanied their 1981 debut at the festival. Overall a pretty strong bill, with not a weak act in the line up if you were inclined to like your rock hard, fast and extremely loud.
The weather was good for a change, Ozzy was throwing buckets of water onto the crowd to cool them off. The crowd threw bottles of piss at each other for no good reason other then it was the done thing, many other nasty things were thrown, such as cows eyeballs, crisp packets full of mud and shite (as the Scottish road crew member of Twisted Sister described it ) which made the stage area a somewhat noxious zone at times....
Ozzy Osbourne arrived onstage wearing huge bat wings, which was SO last year, but Ozzy can get away with things like that. He had a great time..."I'm here...I'm here" he kept saying.
Van Halen didn't really live up to the hype preceding the show or the urban legend that followed it. They were good, I guesss, but just not good enough. Maybe all the hype had built up our expectations too much, who knows? One thing I did notice was a lot of Halen fans getting pissed off with Eddie's over-use of the keyboards.

Monsters of Rock Concert Programme Donington 1981 AC/DC Whitesnake Slade
This item is the official programme for the Monsters of Rock concert on Saturday 22nd August 1981, held at Donington Park, England, UK
The programme is in great condition considering it is now 30 years old.
The programme includes 10 pages of black & white 'live' pictures of AC/DC and interview with Angus, plus pictures and information on each of the support bands.
It also has a great red, black & white cover featuring the 'Monsters of Rock' devil logo and the names of the artists appearing.
Some info of that memorable day;
Lineup: AC/DC, Whitesnake, Blue Oyster Cult, Slade, Blackfoot, More
The show got off to a slow start with sets from More and Blackfoot - neither of whom managed to inspire the crowd greatly. Slade were on next and they were just the right act for the time - they got the crowd singing along to ' Merry Xmas " and generally hit the right spot . Obviously they had transcended their glam roots and managed to successfully transmute into a heavy enough outfit to satisfy a crowd of headbangers ! A major commercial achievement on their part and well done considering it was still daylight -its always hard to get a crowd going in the daylight hours.
Next up was the acclaimed hard rock act Blue Öyster Cult . This band had been around for a long time and had achieved some success in the mid 70s with their mix of heavy rock and prog orientated lyrics - a sound which tended to set them apart from most run of the mill metal bands. Unfortunately things hadn't been going well for the band in the weeks preceding Donington , their drummer- Albert Bouchard ,one of their main composers and who sang on a number of their songs , had been increasingly unreliable, showing up late for almost all the UK shows . The day before Donington he flew back to the states ( either having left voluntarily or been sacked ) leaving the band with roadie Rick Downey as a stand in ( Downey had played the opening numbers in Bouchard's stead at several gigs previously but this was the first show that he had played the entire set with the band ).
The band of the day title was taken from under AC/DC’s nose by the mighty blues rock of Whitesnake. Coverdale and co were one of the best live bands around in the early eighties.AC/DC were let down by over-long gaps between songs. Also, apart from ‘THE’ Bell, their stage show was a bit sparse. Their shows at later Donington’s were much better.
